K-Man & The 45s – Heed The Call

Montreal ska-punk veterans K-Man & The 45s are back with “Heed The Call”, an album packed with lively horns, gritty guitars, punchy rhythms, and the kind of energy that makes you want to get up and move. Released on October 9 through Stomp Records, the record reflects years spent playing shows across Canada, the US, and Europe. Bringing together two-tone ska, punk rock, and rock and roll, the band delivers a collection that sounds ready for a packed room and a crowd singing every word. The title track gets straight to the point, touching on unity and the need to find common ground. “We Won’t Stop” follows with a determined spirit and a chorus that sticks with you. Both songs capture the band’s knack for turning everyday frustrations into something people can shout along to, with the horns adding plenty of punch to the mix.

The album also has a taste for a good story. “Demon Days” dives into myth-inspired chaos, while “Bankrupt in Berlin” recounts a night of getting drunk and lost in a foreign city. It is the sort of tale that sounds even better with a room full of people singing along. “Clark St.” and “Oh Yeah Attitude” bring things back to Montreal, poking fun at city life, big egos, and the nonsense people encounter along the way. There is a more personal side to the record, too. “Buzz Off” takes a firm stand against unwanted opinions and the pressure to live by other people’s rules. “Working in the Sun” draws inspiration from K-Man’s friends in Jamaica and the street youth he works with, giving the album a thoughtful moment amid all the noise and movement. Recorded and mixed by Ryan Battistuzzi at Le Stuzzio in Montreal, “Heed The Call” captures the rough edges and lively spirit the band wanted to bring over from the stage. The horns have a real presence, the rhythm section keeps the songs moving, and the performances have plenty of grit.

I really enjoy how K-Man & The 45s bring ska’s bounce and punk’s attitude together without losing the fun. The personal stories also give the album more depth, making it an enjoyable listen beyond its big choruses and lively arrangements. Give “Heed The Call” a spin and make sure to follow K-Man & The 45s on social media to keep up with their music and upcoming shows. Start with the title track, “We Won’t Stop”, and “Demon Days”, then explore the rest of the album and add your favorite songs to your playlist. If you enjoy bands like The Clash, The Specials, Mad Caddies, or The Planet Smashers, this record deserves a spot in your rotation. Turn it up, share it with a friend, and keep an eye on what these Montreal ska-punk lifers do next.
