Zachary Mason – I Wish Humans Were Made In A Factory…

Some song titles just refuse to be ignored, and “I Wish Humans Were Made In A Factory…” is one of them. Released on February 15th, 2025, this is the eighth single from Guildford-based singer-songwriter Zachary Mason, and it comes with a personality that’s hard to shake off. Witty, self-aware, and genuinely fun, it’s the kind of track that reminds you music doesn’t always have to be serious to say something worth hearing. The song opens with a warm, gritty guitar tone that feels lived-in rather than rehearsed. The rhythm section locks in quickly and confidently, with John Thomasson’s bass giving the whole thing a satisfying low-end weight. By the time Mason’s vocals arrive, you’re already settled into the mood. His delivery carries a half-smirk energy throughout, as if he’s sharing a joke that also happens to be a sharper observation than it first appears. The concept that many of life’s conflicts and tensions might be avoided if humans were simply manufactured on a production line is ridiculous on the surface and completely intentional. Mason plays it with just the right amount of deadpan.

The influences of Neil Young, Bob Dylan, Mac DeMarco, and The Beatles are all somewhere in the room, but the song never feels like it’s borrowing too heavily from any of them. The verses carry a grunge-tinged grit, the choruses open up with a breezier quality, and subtle psychedelic touches add texture without pulling focus. The guitar work across the track is the kind you find yourself replaying just to catch the details you missed the first time. Honestly, the concept here is quietly brilliant. Using humor to say something real about human conflict and imperfection without ever turning preachy is genuinely tricky to pull off. Mason makes it look easy, and that’s a credit to him. It’s also worth mentioning that this single earned him a place in the semi-finals of the ISC 2025, which says plenty on its own.

Zachary Mason has been quietly building something worth paying attention to. Since 2021, he has recorded over 200 demo tracks, landed features in the Spanish Rolling Stone Magazine, picked up airplay across more than 40 radio stations with his previous single “Sweet Sunshine”, and charted on indie radio with “I’ll Get Through”. All of that, and he’s still operating with an independent spirit that comes through clearly in his music. “I Wish Humans Were Made In A Factory…” is one of his sharpest releases yet, and it deserves a place on your playlist today.
