Part Time Signals are back with “Green Light”, the first single from their upcoming album “Duck’s Back, Baby”, which arrives on 6 November via Cardiff independent label Bubblewrap Collective. Released on 28 August, the song introduces the record with a relaxed, thoughtful sound and a feeling many people recognize: being ready to move forward after a long time feeling stuck. “Green Light” is built around that moment when you keep checking the clock and wondering why nothing seems to be changing. There is frustration in that feeling, but the song also carries a quiet sense of hope. The idea that a green light will eventually appear gives the track a gentle push forward without making it overly dramatic.
The arrangement has plenty of small details to enjoy. Warbly guitars and keyboards give the song a soft, slightly dreamy character, while the vocals are surrounded by spring reverb and warm harmonies. The drums have a crisp, saturated sound that keeps the track moving at an easy pace. Stephen Black adds flute and clarinet, Rhodri Brooks contributes pedal steel, and David Newington brings vibraphone to the recording, giving the song a broader palette of sounds. The band recorded “Green Light” themselves at Giant Wafer Studios in Mid Wales. That same recording period produced much of “Duck’s Back, Baby”, with additional sessions later taking place at their rehearsal space and homes in Cardiff. The album follows their 2023 debut “Another Day In Paradise” and 2025 EP “The Window”.
I really enjoyed the laid-back feel of “Green Light” and the way the different instruments sit together without crowding the song. It feels easy to listen to, yet there is enough detail in the arrangement to keep coming back to. As the opening track of “Duck’s Back, Baby”, “Green Light” feels like a fitting introduction to the next chapter for Part Time Signals. It has movement, warmth, and a little patience running through it, making it a very promising first look at the album.
