DownTown Mystic – Mystic Highway Road Trip

DownTown Mystic keeps the momentum going with “Mystic Highway Road Trip”, a six-track EP that captures the simple joy of classic American rock. Released for summer, it feels like the kind of record you throw on before hitting the highway with the windows down. The songs have an easygoing spirit, plenty of energy, and the kind of hooks that stay with you long after the music stops. Robert Allen continues to prove that good songwriting never goes out of style. Rather than relying on big studio tricks, he focuses on memorable melodies, solid performances, and songs that connect on a personal level. The result is an EP that feels genuine from beginning to end. “Live”, featuring Harpmeister Jerry Fierro, brings plenty of drive while carrying an uplifting message that feels especially welcome today. “Losing My Mind”, with guest guitarist Lance Doss, delivers another memorable moment, thanks to its expressive guitar work and confident performance. Both songs highlight the positive outlook that runs through the entire release without ever sounding forced.

The musicians behind the project deserve plenty of credit. Steve Holley on drums and Paul Page on bass lock everything together with effortless chemistry, giving every track a strong rhythmic foundation. Another highlight is “Somebody’s Always Doin’ Something 2 Somebody (Uncut Mix)”, which finally appears in its full version. Jeff Levine’s piano and Hammond B-3 organ add warmth and character, making the performance even more enjoyable. The EP was recorded at Shorefire Studios in New Jersey with Joe DeMaio handling engineering duties while also contributing guitar solos on “Superstar” and “Shadow Walk”. Mastering engineer Leon Zervos gives the recordings extra depth and clarity, allowing every instrument to find its place without losing the natural feel of the performances. One thing I really enjoyed about this EP is how comfortable it feels. It never sounds like it’s trying to prove anything. The music simply lets the songs do the talking, and that honesty makes the listening experience even better. I also like how each track brings its own personality while still fitting naturally with the rest of the collection.

Following the success of “The Wish”, “Mystic Highway”, and the recent “On E Street Remix” EP featuring Max Weinberg and Garry Tallent, DownTown Mystic continues a strong run of releases. With music featured in more than 250 television shows and films, Robert Allen has built a reputation for writing songs that work just as well on screen as they do through a pair of speakers. If you’re looking for rock music with heart, strong songwriting, and plenty of positive energy, “Mystic Highway Road Trip” is well worth your time. Make sure you follow DownTown Mystic on your favorite streaming platform and social media channels so you don’t miss future releases. Add this EP to your playlists, share it with friends who appreciate honest rock and roll, and let these songs become part of your next drive, your weekend soundtrack, or simply your everyday listening. Records like this remind us that well-written rock music continues to have plenty to offer.
