Archie Tulk – White Bee

Archie Tulk brings a restless kind of longing to “White Bee”, a song about having someone stuck in your thoughts even when they are miles away. Released on October 2, the single gives that feeling a lively, colorful setting, combining art pop, jazz, and orchestral sounds around Tulk’s warm baritone voice. The song immediately has a playful sense of movement. Piano and drums move through short, stop-start patterns, giving the arrangement a slightly unpredictable rhythm. Around them, strings, winds, harp, and saxophone fill out the track, creating plenty of detail while keeping the vocals close and personal.

What I enjoyed most is how naturally the different sounds work together. The arrangement has plenty going on, yet “White Bee” never loses sight of the emotion at its center. Tulk’s voice gives the song an inviting quality, while the changing instrumental parts keep the listener interested from one moment to the next. The buzzing sounds that appear throughout the song are a particularly nice touch. They reflect the idea behind the track, where thoughts of a lover keep coming back and refuse to disappear. It is an everyday feeling, but Tulk gives it an unusual musical shape.

I also like how the song balances its intimate moments with the larger orchestral sections. There is a sense of scale here, but the performance still feels personal. For me, that balance is one of the reasons “White Bee” stays interesting after the first listen. The accompanying video follows Tulk alongside violinists and a saxophonist, moving between an open field and a dimly lit jazz bar. The changing locations add another side to the song and suit its contrast between distance and closeness.

If “White Bee” is a first introduction to Archie Tulk, it is a good reason to keep listening. The single offers a glimpse of the creative world behind his upcoming debut album, “Human Noise”, due November 27. Make sure to follow Archie Tulk to keep up with his album and future releases, and add “White Bee” to your playlist if you enjoy songs that blend expressive vocals with interesting arrangements and a touch of jazz. It is the kind of track that can easily find a place in a playlist for a quiet evening, a late drive, or any moment when you want something a little more thoughtful playing in the background.
