ALEIA – Middle Name

A certain kind of hurt comes from caring about someone who never makes the effort to truly know you. It can make you question your worth and wonder whether being alone might be better than staying in a relationship where you feel invisible. Perth-based artist ALEIA explores this in her new single “Middle Name”, a personal indie-rock release about unrequited love, disappointment, and the struggle to hold on to yourself when affection isn’t returned. ALEIA has steadily built her catalog, starting with her debut EP “Public Humiliation”, released in November 2025, followed by the single “Willpower”. Her sound brings together alternative pop and indie-rock, with delicate vocals and personal songwriting at its heart. She has also received support from Triple J, Triple J Unearthed, ABC Perth, RTR FM, PBS, Happy Mag, The AU Review and several other music publications.

On “Middle Name”, overdriven electric guitars create a dark, slightly hazy atmosphere that sits comfortably alongside a steady, powerful beat. ALEIA’s airy vocals soften the verses, giving her words room to breathe before the song opens into bigger, more intense choruses. Her voice has a lovely vulnerability, especially against the heavier guitars. The arrangement gives the song plenty of character, moving between quieter moments and bursts of emotion that suit the subject perfectly. The story behind the single comes from ALEIA’s own experience with unrequited love. She writes about being in a relationship with someone who never takes the time to understand her, even on a basic level. That feeling of being unknown by someone who claims to love you gradually affects how you see yourself. Her explanation of the song is particularly touching, especially her belief that being loved should also mean being seen by your partner.

I really like the balance between the gentle vocal delivery and the heavier guitar sound. It creates a lovely contrast and makes the chorus especially enjoyable. I also appreciate the honesty in ALEIA’s writing. She approaches a difficult experience openly, and that makes the song easy to connect with. “Middle Name” is a great opportunity to discover more of ALEIA’s work. Follow her on social media to keep up with future releases and projects. If you enjoy indie-rock with expressive vocals, heartfelt songwriting, and plenty of guitar, give this single a listen and add it to your playlist. It’s worth a little time, especially if you appreciate artists who aren’t afraid to share personal experiences through their music.
