New York funk outfit Circus Mind has landed one of their biggest hometown gigs yet — a support slot for New Orleans legends Galactic at Brooklyn Bowl on Saturday, June 27. The show also features vocalist Jelly Joseph sharing the stage with Galactic, rounding out a lineup built on deep funk, soul, and the kind of loose, improvisational energy that makes a night feel like anything could happen. Doors open at 6:00 PM, show at 8:00 PM. The event is 21+.
For Circus Mind, it’s a milestone moment. The band — led by ringleader Mark Rechler on keys and vocals, alongside Brian Duggan on guitar, Michael Amendola on sax, Mathew Fox on bass, Steve Finkelstein on percussion, and Dan Roth on drums — has been carving out a reputation across the Northeast as one of the more interesting live acts working in the funk-jam space. Their latest album, Bioluminate, drew favorable comparisons to late-Beatles pop crossed with NOLA funk and earned coverage from Relix and The Rocktologist. They’ve played Jazz Fest, The Capitol Theatre, and B.B. King’s, but Brooklyn Bowl, a venue with serious cachet in the New York live music scene, feels like a natural next step.
Galactic, for their part, need little introduction. The New Orleans five-piece has clocked over 2,000 performances and worked alongside artists ranging from Macy Gray and The Roots to B.B. King himself. More than 25 years in, they remain a genuine draw — the kind of band that treats every show like an event rather than a routine night on the road. Circus Mind will also turn up at the Great South Bay Music Festival on Saturday, July 25, sharing the bill with Gov’t Mule, Bruce Hornsby and The Noisemakers, and The Almost Brothers, among others.
Tickets for the Brooklyn Bowl show are now on sale at brooklynbowl.com and are expected to sell out quickly.
