Self-taught singer, songwriter, rapper, and composer Roger William Saro – the creative force behind ROSA – had already worked with underground producer Vice Vic when he crafted the climactic outro of the visual for “She Belongs to the Show (Part 2).” His deep-house take of “Picky” sees the track slowed down and a freshly recorded second verse added.
Taking inspiration from Dilla and Kaytranada, producer and keyboardist Emperose finds an added dimension to the groove of “Picky” for his translation – transforming it for the dance floor.
The remixes bring more light to the work of Saro, who has emerged as one of 2023’s most intriguing new talents. The Surinamese/Native American creative who grew up in Amsterdam raised by a single mother found his calling by creating worlds through drawing and writing. FEMALE, released last month, is a strong opening statement for Saro, dealing with the nuances and interplay of modern relationships.
