Near Death Experience (NDX) – Lifelines

London-based Near Death Experience (NDX) returns with “Lifelines”, a lively new single that blends soul, funk, and jazz with a touch of psychedelic rock. It’s a song with plenty of personality, built around a catchy rhythm, strong vocals and some excellent instrumental moments. The track opens with Jack Dawkins’ smooth saxophone playing over a funky acoustic guitar pattern. It’s a lovely introduction, but things soon pick up as the guitar, bass and drums come together to create a much stronger groove. Ian Whiteling and Jami Nunes then take center stage, their contrasting vocal styles working particularly well together. Their voices bring different shades to the song, giving the verses plenty of character.

“Lifelines” explores how unpredictable life can be, touching on the difficult choices and uncertain moments we all face. The lyrics capture that feeling of being caught between two sides, with lines about “wrong and right” and “fight or flight”. The chorus is particularly memorable, with a singalong quality that makes it easy to get caught up in the song. The song also features a fantastic key change that gives it an extra lift. One of my favorite parts comes during the instrumental break. Guilherme Dessuy’s guitar and Dawkins’ saxophone trade short, lively solos, while Amar Grover’s bass lays down a deep groove underneath. Jami Nunes adds some lovely keyboard touches, keeping everything moving before the song shifts into a hypnotic vocal section. Ian Whiteling’s powerful scream adds a surprising moment before the chorus returns.

I really enjoy the way NDX brings soul, jazz, and funk together here. The saxophone gives the track a lovely character, and Ian and Jami’s vocals together make it even more enjoyable. It’s the kind of song that puts you in a good mood and makes you want to turn the volume up. “Lifelines” is a great introduction to what Near Death Experience has been working on, and it offers plenty to enjoy on repeat listens. Follow NDX on their social media pages to keep up with their latest releases and future plans. If you haven’t checked out the band before, this is a good place to start. Give “Lifelines” a listen, add it to your favorite playlist, and share it with anyone who enjoys a good mix of soulful vocals, funky rhythms, and jazzy sounds. The band deserves plenty of support, and this single is well worth giving some attention.
