Pascal Dennis has found a rather funny subject for a song in “Last of the Red Dots (Marie Kondo Boogie)”, a quirky R&B boogie inspired by his love of organization. It all started with a conversation between Pascal and producer David Logan, who share a passion for keeping things in order. They manage their schedules with a Kanban Board, which helps the band track projects and priorities. With Crazy Angels members spread across Italy, Canada, the USA, and the UK, a solid system is especially useful. The song idea came after Pascal and David realized they had completed all their priority tasks. In their system, they mark important work with a Red Dot. David joked that they had reached the point of having only red dots left and wondered what they would do next. Pascal turned that little exchange into a humorous R&B boogie about being a neat freak. It’s a simple idea, but one that makes for a very entertaining song.
David Logan handles the arrangement, and he does a terrific job giving the track its lively character. The Crazy Angels band bring plenty to the performance, while Jeff Simpher and the St. Louis Brass add a funny, slightly raunchy horn arrangement that gives the song an extra spark. Luca Camerotta’s guitar and Davide Sambrotta’s keyboards also deserve a mention, providing a lovely counterpoint to the brass and keeping the arrangement interesting. I really enjoy the amusing story behind this track. It’s refreshing to hear a song take such an ordinary situation and turn it into something this enjoyable. The brass section is another personal highlight, adding a cheeky touch that works beautifully with the groove.
“Last of the Red Dots (Marie Kondo Boogie)” is a lovely introduction to Pascal Dennis‘s sense of humor and his work with Crazy Angels. If you haven’t discovered his music yet, take a moment to follow him and keep up with his future releases. Listen to this track, watch the lyric video, and add it to your playlist. It’s a fun choice for anyone who enjoys a good R&B groove, a playful story, and musicians having a great time doing what they do.
