From Kings of Leon to HAIM, family bands have a long history of turning shared roots into something special. Suffolk duo Esme Emerson step into that lineage with their own voice, blending two perspectives into one thoughtful, emotionally open sound. As siblings, they bring a natural closeness to their writing, and on their latest single, “Please”, that connection feels central.
The track explores young, queer love in all its complexity. It’s about the hesitation, the shame, the confusion, and the sweetness that can exist at the same time. There’s a push and pull running through the song. One moment it feels tender and certain, the next it’s unsure and heavy. They capture that emotional contradiction without overexplaining it. Lines like “take my heart it’s yours / just for safekeeping” and “I want to see you now / I’m just hesitating” sit in that in-between space where feelings are real but timing and courage don’t always line up.
Written at their family home and co-produced with close friend Hugo M. Hardy, “Please” carries a sense of intimacy from start to finish. The production folds experimental electronic elements into a dreamy folk backdrop, giving the song movement without overwhelming the emotion at its core. It feels warm but grounded, reflective without drifting away.
There’s something honest about how Esme Emerson approach the subject. They don’t dramatize young love, and they don’t clean it up either. They let it be awkward, uncertain, and deeply felt. “Please” shows how well the two work together, and it leaves you curious about what stories they’ll share next on their upcoming EP later this year.
